Background: Menstruation is a significant event during puberty that can lead to relatively substantial discomfort, one form of which is menstrual pain, or dysmenorrhea. If not managed properly, this issue can affect a woman's comfort and quality of life. Therefore, interventions are necessary—such as providing health education on the use of warm compresses and acupressure techniques as non-pharmacological methods to help alleviate menstrual pain—utilizing audiovisual media.
Purpose: To determine the effect of health education—covering warm compresses and acupressure—delivered via an audiovisual method for managing menstrual pain, on the knowledge and skills of female students.
Methods: This study employs a quantitative pre-experimental method with a one-group pre- and post-test design. The population consists of female students in grade X of the Mathematics and Natural Sciences (MIPA) stream at MAN 1 Grobogan. A total sampling technique was used, resulting in 32 respondents. The instruments utilized are questionnaires assessing knowledge and skills regarding the prevention of menstrual pain. Data analysis was conducted using the Wilcoxon test.
Results: The results of the Wilcoxon test indicate that health education on warm compresses and acupressure, delivered via an audiovisual method, has a significant effect on improving the knowledge and skills of female students in managing menstrual pain, with a p-value < 0.001 (α = 0.05).
Conclusion: Health education on warm compresses and acupressure, delivered via audiovisual methods, has a significant impact on improving the knowledge and skills of female students in managing menstrual pain. Audiovisual media can serve as an educational tool to support the non-pharmacological management of menstrual pain
